Location:
Parking lot of Oak Ridge outdoor pool on the corner of Robertsville Road & Providence Road (one block west of the O.R. Turnpike – Highway #95 – and ‘behind’ the O.R. High School). It
is best if you arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the race (to ‘register’,
set-up, and relax).
Distances:
Swim 200 meters, bike 2 miles, run 1 mile.
Course
description:
Swim is an ‘out and back’ in the Oak Ridge outdoor pool – 200 meters is a ‘long’ swim – please be sure to have your child practice this distance – participant may stand on the pool bottom during the race if he/she is tired; but, may not advance forward.
Bike is a relatively flat ‘L’ shaped route – 1/2 mile out and 1/2 mile back on Providence, then 1/2 mile out and 1/2 mile back on Robertsville. Helmet is mandatory. Be sure that bike is in safe condition.
Run is 1/2 mile out and 1/2 mile back on Providence. There is one very gradual hill (in front of OR high school) – the
rest of the course is flat. There will be course monitors and water stations;
however, the police department will not shut down the roads. Please be sure to
explain to your children the importance of staying on course and away from possible
street traffic.
